Internet Explorer 3.0b1 supports only the Russian character set KOI8-R but not the complete Cyrillic character set ISO-IR-111 <ftp://dkuug.dk/i18n/charmaps/ECMA-CYRILLIC>. Use ResEdit <ftp://ftp.info.euro.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_SW_Updates/US/Macintosh/Utilities/> and the included resources to modify Internet Explorer 3.0b1 so that you can read also Ukrainian web pages.
What to do?
(0) Make a backup copy of Internet Explorer 3.0b1.
(1) Open the file “into Explorer 3.0b1” with ResEdit, select all resources (-A) and copy them into the clipboard (-C). Open the file “Internet Explorer 3.0” with ResEdit and paste the resources into it (-V). When asked “Replace resources with the same ID?”, choose Yes (-Y) and save (-S).
(2) If you have not yet used Internet Explorer at all, go to (4). If you have already used versions 1 or 2 of Internet Explorer, trash your old prefs file “System Folder : Preferences : Explorer : Preferences” (Blame Microsoft for that one!) and go to (4).
(3) Open the file “into Preferences” with ResEdit, select all resources (-A) and copy them into the clipboard (-C). (4) Start Internet Explorer 3.0 and choose the menu “Edit : Options… : Font”. For the various Font Encodings set up fonts of your choice.
Feel free to pass this patch on to Microsoft <mailto:giraffe@microsoft.com> <http://www.microsoft.com/ie/support/feedback/> and ask them to include it in the final version of Internet Explorer 3.0.
